LABSA, also known as Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (straight-chain alkylbenzene sulfonic acid), is an important raw material for anionic surfactants, widely used in laundry powders, laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and various industrial and household cleaning products. LABSA is typically produced through a continuous sulfonation reaction in a falling film reactor using Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) and Sulfur Trioxide (SO₃).

SO₃ Falling Film Sulfonation Process
Modern LABSA industrial production typically employs the SO₃ gas sulfonation + Multi-Tube Falling Film Reactorprocess.
The typical production process is:
Sulfur → SO₂ Generation → SO₃ Conversion → SO₃/Air Gas → LAB Feed → Falling Film Sulfonation → Aging/Hydrolysis → LABSA Storage
In the typical process, sulfur and dry air enter the combustion system to generate SO₂, which then undergoes catalytic conversion to form SO₃. SO₃ is mixed with dry air and enters the sulfonation reaction system, where it rapidly comes into contact with LAB in the falling film reactor and undergoes sulfonation reactions. Subsequently, it undergoes steps such as maturation/hydrolysis to form LABSA.
